I took advantage of a beautiful September day to drive to Lake Canandaigua, NY. It had been a while since I have been there but it has been on my to do list. I have seen many artists depict this boathouse scene over the years and I figured I would give it a try. With rows of houses to choose from, I took several pictures at various angles. Normally, I make it a point to pant the scene exactly as is to the last detail. For the first time, I decided to take a few liberties. If you visit this scene, you will notice that I changed the colors and siding of a few of these houses to add some warmth to the scene. Through computer magic, I also planted the row boats from a previous trip to Maine. Unless you are a Canandaigua Lake resident, we will keep this our little secret.

WATERCOLOR, PHOTO REALISM STYLE: Inspired by my mentor in 1998, the late Dr. V.R Lalli, I began my watercolor realist series. I have called myself the "Pubpainter" as I originally embarked on a mission to paint only drinking establishments I found worthy of the brush. Over time however, I found myself with a desire to paint other subjects such as harbor scenes or buildings of historical status. From Western New York, I have painted scenes from my local region as well as subjects from my frequent travels to the New England Coast. As a retired art teacher, I hope to complete many more paintings of these regions and others in the coming years. Watercolor is not often used to achieve photo realism which I feel makes my style a bit unique....
